Dear readers. So that's it. It's over. I'm no longer admin on the Skins.be Forum.
At first I was laughing about it but then I started to realize..what happened...I shivered. I wanted to drop a tear but couldn't caus I was in school, luckily the msn conversations with my fellow mods kept me through the day.
I would be lying if I told you I don't care. You know I'm a constructive , hard working type. I love to organize, to solve problems , to brainstorm, to search endless for solutions. And yet it has come to an end.
Like the ex-owners said 'you really liked that modding eh?' . Bless them.
I don't regret being part of the skins community. Those two and a half years on the forum have been absolutely amazing.
I'll never forget our 'pink' forum (what were the girls in the header doing?!), rules in the hq section, the dutch mods, the no-sig rule, silly topics (boobs in your language) and not to forget....the members! I got to know a lot of people and even made friends.
I remember as if it was yesterday. Our first topics were posted by Wim, Jan, Glenn and Me.
They contained LQ pics with some comments from the mods, very monologue *g*
(I believe our first topic was Beyonce Knowless?)
The forum was getting bigger so we needed to hire mods. Our main rule was 'you have to speak dutch to become mod' . We had our team (baracus, guustflaterke, wim, jan, glenn, dropkick murphy) so we were devided. At that time I was modding two forums togheter with baracus.
But I saw a lot of merging, movin..in the other forums. So I had to ran off (yes wim and jan are my neighbours) to their house to report the stuff. So they decided to make me supermod.
Later Amaru and Sincere joined the team.
Through time I discovered we have several types of members, the quiet ones (lurkes), the reply'n'comment ones, the hq posters, the frank ones and the trouble makers.
We didn't have a lot of troublemakers in the past only a few who deleted their own posts/pics.
The forum was growing but became also awfully slower and slower ...and slower
After a while some of our best hq members left because of that slowness.
There were also some staff changes going on, baracus left and started his own site, dropkick left, and me and guustflaterke became site admins. We hired new mods, and hired our first non-dutch mods, wow!
Rabies joined us and so did the TheCaretaker. In the meanwhile the slowness was fixed (due to a tiny bug) and the forum became active again. The slow forum was one of the first forum depts I can remember.
It all went well until I heard the terrible news that skins.be was closing. There was a chance that the forum could stay online.
We were desvistated. We know what you guys felt by your reactions but believe me. I could see that dissapointing look on the owners faces. Law troubles. Pff
All those efforts they've put in the site, every single day updating the site manually.
Would it all be gone in a flash? I felt so sorry for them.
When we posted the announcement on the forum a rage broke out. Everybody was sharing their email adresses (everybody knew everybody back then) and replied with disbelief.
Even many zero posters , lurkers started to post and showed us their sympathy.
Thanks to all who supported us. Quoted from a sig: R.I.P. Skins.be
But the end can also be the beginning. A while later Wim and Jan informed me they've found new owners and already met them. I was so happy. This meant neither to the site nor the forum had to close down.
New announcement: Skins.be is back!
Alex and his team were like knights on shiny horses. Alex kept the current mod/admin team.
The forum kept growing and growing, a lot of HQ posters, usercash made his way, ...
And a new exciting but refreshing event. The Skins.be babe Tournament a.k.a BT.
It all went well untill there were a lot of members cheating. Even spamming.
The thing that hurt me most was that some of the users accused us of cheating.
I remember being dissapointed in the trust of our members. So I made an announcement to set things straight . 'Where's the trust'? even if it's virtual trust' I wrote.
One reply = one vote, collecting some ip's and we managed to get through the tournament.
I swore never to organize one again.
There was also a time when the forum got overwhelmed with spam (ads). The mods had their hands full. But there was also good news. A new forum software! vBulletin!
After the transformation the spamming disappeared. Okay it was a default layout but I could live with that. Atleast some people were happy to find a 'purpleless' layout.
Finally everything could be sorted (rules subforum), image-in-sig-revolution, and ... the introduction of six new mods: metalmachine, HB, Crock, Boris, Krypto, XELF.
Next mission: the forum division. The users came to the discission to leave the good'ol forum as it is. And in the end I'm glad we left it like that.
Rabies got a new idea and so it be: the first skins.be forum awards !
I wasn't ready for another tournament lol :D
But behind the scenes discissions have to made. Alex and his team couldn't agree with me and the mods on certain matters. I'm speaking in name of the mods cause they have the same opinion as me. In the end there was no way to work this out and well....you know the rest *sigh*
I came home from school and had to announce the sad news. Jan kinda saw it coming.
All I could say was:'It's not in our hands anymore' . They understood me.
And said 'you really liked the modding eh'
......
I want to thank these special people.Glenn:The owner and founder of the skins.be
